Who Are We?
We would like to welcome you to The University of Arizona and the great opportunities that are offered through your education. It is our goal to support you in your time as a student so that you might get the most from your educational pursuits. How Can a Campus Ministry Do That?
Reformed
Our name is actually intended
to answer that question:
By “Reformed” we mean that we are committed to the
historic confessions of Christianity as they were expressed in the 16th
century Reformation; specifically as expressed in the Westminster Confession of Faith.
This does not mean that we are attempting to go back to the 16th
century, but that we are dialoging with our ever-shifting world and its
view of truth by reflecting on centuries of confession by the Church.
One motto of the protestant Reformation was Semper Reformanda, or
“reformed and always reforming”. This process of knowing and coming to
know is always done according to God’s revelation of Himself in the
Scriptures. We believe that God is knowable, and that He speaks meaning
into our lives. In spite of postmodernism’s objection, we believe that
there is a meta-narrative (universal reality), and part of seeing it
more clearly is understanding our history, and more specifically
holding to the historic teachings of the Bible as they reveal the
person and work of Jesus Christ. As a campus ministry we are
committed to be learners according to God’s word, and to develop a
God-centered view of the world and life. Through exposure to truth, we
hope that many will come to know the One who is truth, Jesus Christ.
University
We know that the university is a place for the pursuit of knowledge
and understanding. The very name “university”
implies a commitment to
that pursuit, and we believe that it is a worthwhile endeavor. We also
know that there are questions that the university cannot answer.
Questions regarding: human significance, the character and nature of
God, what it means to be human, whether knowledge of God is even
possible, etc. We believe that these questions cannot be divorced from
the pursuit of science, history, art, literature, and so forth. All of
life is lived before the face of God and is therefore significant. Our vision is to see The University of Arizona transformed by the power and beauty of the gospel of Christ.
Fellowship
We believe that the pursuit of the knowledge of God, ourselves, and
the world is only possible in community. The Christian is called to
live within a very special community- the Church. We taste the life of
heaven together. We face our struggles together. But, we know that the
glory of the church is not her people. Her glory is her Redeemer,
Christ the Lord! Because Christ loved the church, and gave himself up
for her, we are then delighted to gather under her care. We know that
it is here that God is at work, gathering His people, and strengthening
them for the work of His kingdom.
RUF is committed to building up and inviting people into this unique and loving community. For more information check out our national website www.ruf.org
